About Us

Creator Lutheran Church has been a presence in the Clackamas community since fall of 1987.  It is an open and welcoming community of believers working to fulfill Christ's calling for ministry and justice in a broken world.  The people of Creator worship, study, play and work together in a spirit of celebration of God's gifts to us, working to bring about God's work with our hands.

  • Worship at Creator Lutheran

    Sunday Morning Worship at Creator

8:50 a.m. Creator Praise (praise songs as people are arriving)

    9:00 a.m. Worship

Weekly worship is central to the life of the Creator Community. We gather each Sunday morning at 8:50 a.m. to sing praise before we begin 9:00 a.m. worship. Communion is shared each week. All baptized people are welcome to take communion.

Creator uses a liturgical form of worship which includes confession, praise, readings, Gospel, a sermon, prayer, offering, communion and benediction. While the form of the worship is similar, week-to-week, the music varies greatly each week.

During the seasons of Advent and Lent a 7:00 p.m. Wednesday evening worship, preceeded at 6:15 p.m. by a soup and bread supper, gives the community an opportunity for a quiet and contempletive worship service about a half-hour in length.

Sunday worship includes education time for children ages 3 through 5th grade. These children participate in the first part of the service, leave during sermon time for Sunday School and return during the offering so they may participate with their families in Communion.

  • Confirmation

This is a time to explore the Lutheran faith, and build relationships with one another. It is a time of fellowship, a time to be together with peers through devotion, Bible study, games, laughter, music, skits, servant projects, and more. Youth are also encouraged to attend Confirmation Camp at Camp Lutherwood in the summer.

Confirmation classes for middle school youth focus on learning Luther's Small Catechism including baptism, holy communion, the creeds, the ten commandments, and more.

Confirmation classes are on the first and third Sunday each month, following worship. Parents participate with their confirmands.

  • Creator's Year of Hospitality

In 2011, Creator's Congregation will be focusing on hospitality to others, not only within the Creator community but reaching out into the wider community.

In our process of becoming a Reconciling in Christ congregation it was clear that Creator becomes energized when we expand our welcome. At its December meeting the council approved a plan called Creator’s Year of Hospitality. Hospitality certainly is Creator’s gift and during this year we will devote time and attention to the giving and receiving of that gift.

The ELCA states “God’s work, our hands”. Those simple, direct words are inspiring. They are not only about doing God’s work with our hands but receiving God’s work, as a gift, with our hands. Our ministry at Creator is captured in the words “Singing God’s song, Sharing God’s love, Serving God’s people”. It is self-evident how a year focusing on hospitality would promote “Sharing God’s love” and “Serving God’s people” but I didn’t appreciate how it directly served “Singing God’s song” until watching the “Living The Questions” study on Prayer in Adult Education. There was a powerful story about how we all participate in singing God’s song. It concluded with the thought that, as a church, we not only sing our part but we also learn each others’ songs so we can sing at moments when someone can’t until they are able sing again. A focus on hospitality can help us learn those parts.

Look for this Year of Hospitality focus throughout the year during services and monthly Adult Education sessions.
